DANIELLE HANSFORD, 18 FROM DONCASTER AND MUM TO ELLIE
Danielle lives in Doncaster with her 4 month-old daughter Ellie. Before becoming a mum, Danielle was working, now that Ellie is older, she plans to enroll at college in September to study hair and beauty.
Please explain why you’ve chosen to breastfeed?
Because it’s a lot cheaper than bottle-feeding and it’s healthier for the baby—it fights off all the germs! I’ve been wanting to breastfeed ever since I got pregnant.
What did the people around you think of your decision to breastfeed - eg partner, parents, friends, family?
Everyone was brilliant, they were all very supportive and pleased with my decision.
What general advice would you give to expectant mums considering breastfeeding?
Definitely do it! After the first few weeks, it’s fine! You’ll be glad that you did it.
What advice would you give to mums whose partner/friends/parents disapprove of breastfeeding?
Don’t listen to what anybody says, if you want to breastfeed then do it, it’s better for your baby and that’s all that counts.
Did you speak to anyone for advice or do any research about feeding, if so, who did you speak to/where did you look for information?
My step-mum advised me to breastfeed, because she is a volunteer breastfeeding support worker.
Do you think that there are any drawbacks to breastfeeding? If so, what are they?
Yes. Unfortunately, Dad’s can’t help with the night feeds!
