SOPHIE EVANS, 22 FROM THE WIRRAL AND MUM TO DAISIE
Sophie lives in Wirral with her 5-1/2-month-old daughter Daisie. Before she became a mum Sophie studied Early years at university and opened ‘Wirral Tumble Tots’ , she plans to go back in October . In her spare time she likes to spend time with friends and family as well as enjoying walks with her baby and doing activities with Daisie.
Please explain why you’ve chosen to breastfeed?
I heard it is a lot better for the baby and the best way to get nutrients and since I started breastfeeding I have realised how much cheaper it is
What did the people around you think of your decision to breastfeed - eg partner, parents, friends, family?
My partner didn’t really know that breastfeeding was any better than formula as he has never been around babies before, but from what I told him and when he was around me, the antenatal girls and other mums he realised it was a lot better. My family have been really supportive, and have helped me through mastitis twice. My parents also really encouraged me too as I was breastfed.
What general advice would you give to expectant mums considering breastfeeding?
Keep on at it, it gets a lot easier after 6 weeks.
What advice would you give to mums whose partner/friends/parents disapprove of breastfeeding?
I think its up to them but now after I have fed my baby I would maybe explain that its only natural.
